Brinjal seeds

 I didnt see this guy...

Can you see it? Hidden until it rotted and fell to the ground. The seeds look ready to start many new plants...
If they survive the birds etc, they will become 100% my very own brinjals for the first time.

Brinjal observations

  • We dont get many coz the nutrients from the fish pond arent enough for fruiting plants.
  • The ones that we do get are small, for the same reason.
  • Strangely, the insects love the leaves but so far, touch wood, have not gone for the fruit.
  • The leaves are attacked more than most other plants I have. So whatever fruit that does grow is a blessing.
  • I still dont know the optimal time to pluck them.
  • I love slicing these up, about half cm thick, and toast them on a hot pan. Just a tiny bit of oil to help it along. Zero seasoning.

Mixed salad

An assortment from the garden for today's lunch... mostly leaves with some damage

That long funny odd shaped leaf on the top right is one of the newer greens I have started. There is also a small curly leaf kale plant that I completely uprooted coz it was small and yellowing before I could harvest any mature leaves. A tiny brinjal. Bottom left was a  Malabar spinach shoot that popped up between some other plant. It was far from any climbing surface so removed it. The flat kale on the top left were mostly leaves with browning tips. Oh yeah and some tomatoes from our dying plant that just keeps on giving!!

Fish pond water must be slowly paying off

The fish pond water is the main source of nutrients for the plants. The brinjal has been fruiting more and slightly bigger too.

Ignore the bitter gourd. That fellow is big coz my expert neighbour takes care of it.

Brinjal doing a bit better

I used to get maybe one fruit in a month if I was lucky. Ever since watering from the climbing perch pond, it has started to bear fruit. There are about 5 on the plant right now. Still smallish, but at least more abundant.

It was a rainy morning so just a quick harvest of brinjal, kangkung & malabar spinach

With a little help from our neighbour

The brinjal plants havent produced much at all. And any fruit has been tiny. This one was a result of our neighbour helping and adding her compost tea to the plant.
Double the size of our past efforts.
