The leaves and stems have a mild taste. So I cut all the green from the harvested ginger and chucked some in the rice cooker...
and also when boiling spaghetti...Monday, 31 May 2021

Harvested ginger#5
This was the anak I replanted. It's mother was from a regular ginger bought from the wet market.
I harvested it coz I could see some shoots not doing well. The total harvest after about 5+ months was ok. Not as big as the mother but still good.Monday, 24 May 2021

plastic in compost
It's easy to spot the plastic in compost because of its shiny, bright colours. Even the claer plastics contrast more against the dark browns of the compost. I picked out quite a lot this time, the most I've had in one compost harvest. It due to getting scap veggie from the market. They dump lots of other rubbish in.
This is about 80% of the crap I fished out.Monday, 10 May 2021
Bentong ginger harvested
It has been 7 months since I planted a piece of ginger I bought from Bentong. The plant faired better than the Bentong ginger I bought from here in PJ Old Town. But it was still small compared to the regular market ginger. Here u can see the difference in height from another variety which I got from someone in the neighbourhood.
So I decide to harvest it and make room for a bigger species. This is all I got for 7 months in the ground...You can see the earthworms. They love hanging out between the roots. And here is a clearer picture of the full harvest after an initial rinse with fish pond water. Not much at all...Cleaned a little with a few more rinses and scrubs with dechlorinated water, to add to my ginger bug...I removed a portion of the oldest looking pieces from the bug and replaced it with these new ones.Because they were in the ground just an hour ago, and I took care to wash them in dechlorinated water, there will be a higher percentage of wild yeast on them. This is a bonus for the bug. The spent ginger went into some ginger tea, and was soft enough to eat after drinking the tea.

such a unique looking corn
I never saw the corn being sowed, coz it came as a young plat from my neighbour. Imagine my surprise when I saw this...
A quick search made my smile even wider...
